“This is a game changer in the cost of high performance storage solutions, delivering in just one rack what our competitors can only achieve with many times the equipment and at much higher costs,” said Steve Sicola, CTO of X-IO. “Now with the added capability of Windows Server 2012, we can clearly demonstrate that X-IO storage matches or exceeds the best performance available from today’s servers at a fraction of the cost.”
The demonstration uses only off-the-shelf commodity equipment, showcasing not only the speed of X-IO’s ISE-2 intelligent storage solution, but its real world usability and affordability in the data center. The demonstration platform comprises the following readily available products:
• 10 ISE-2 Storage Systems (powered by only 700 watts per 3U box)
• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 incorporating the upgraded SMB v3
• X-IO X-volume software
• Current generation standard servers (HP DL380p G8 & DL360 G7)
• Infiniband adapters and switches
• Two QLogic 5800 8GB fibre channel switches and six Qlogic QLA2564 (quad-port) host bus adaptors
Sicola continued, “We have proven that storage no longer needs to be the choke point in the stack. And this is not some custom test designed to present a theoretical performance output; these numbers reflect real world experience, demonstrating the industry-leading value, performance and reliability of our design.”
X-IO designed its Intelligent Storage Elements and architecture from the ground up to accelerate enterprise applications and drive unmatched storage price/performance, even for big data needs. Each X-IO ISE unit is a completely self-contained storage building block. ISE is uniquely designed to scale so that no matter how many ISE units are added to increase capacity, full storage performance is maintained. ISE units from X-IO are major environmental upgrades to a data center due to their low energy consumption and low HVAC loads.
