$1 million intelligent storage deal

Specialist SaaS provider RTW Hosting has chosen X-IO Intelligent Storage as the backbone of its IT infrastructure. The deal, which sees RTW Hosting acquire over $1m worth of X-IO Hyper ISE and ISE 2 product, was signed following a competitive evaluation that saw X-IO win through unmatched performance, unmatched value, resilience, unlimited scalability and an industry-leading five-year warranty.

Date: 6 Jul 2012

“We’re seeing 25 times the IOPS we got with our previous SAN, with extremely low latency, VM deployment is around 15-20 times quicker, and our storage is perfectly placed to easily handle IOPS storms and ensure the end user doesn’t see any performance degradation,” said Mike Wills, CEO and founder, RTW Hosting. “Before X-IO, our VMware template took between four and six hours to provision; now it takes five minutes. Our customers are already commenting that they’ve noticed a performance difference, which is critical because we differentiate ourselves through the provision of premium performance, 24x7. X-IO units have delivered phenomenal performance at an extremely competitive price.”

RTW Hosting, a widely respected provider of VoIP and remote desktop solutions, began testing X-IO in February 2012 after rapid growth in demand for its private cloud services led to performance degradation in its existing storage estate. X-IO’s ISE solutions delivered 180,000 IOPS -- a 2,471% performance increase over the previous configuration’s 7,000 IOPS -- while using five times less space and power.

“The majority of RTW Hosting’s competitors make the mistake of prioritising price over performance, and that is simply not what the market wants,” said Roger Walton, vice president, X-IO EMEA. “To ensure that its clients’ businesses and data are in safe hands, companies like RTW Hosting must deliver all the security, resilience, disaster recovery and business continuity that the term ‘Premium Performance’ encapsulates. After only three months, X-IO storage is already playing an important part in helping RTW Hosting deliver on its promises.”
Wills continued, “This investment in X-IO completes the final piece of the jigsaw in our recent spell of investment, enabling us to guarantee a truly sensational experience for those firms that run a little bit more than the basic Office suite. Thanks to this investment RTW Hosting will shortly be able to offer an enhanced live hosting/ Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environment to its customers. Even in the event of a complete data centre failure, this bespoke hosted solution will provide full business continuity through the use of X-IO’s unique “active-active” replication solution.”

X-IO designed its Intelligent Storage Elements and architecture from the ground up to accelerate enterprise applications and drive unmatched performance & value, even for big data needs. Each X-IO ISE unit is a completely self-contained storage building block. The Hyper ISE version features clustered on-board controllers that manage a performance pool comprised of both HDDs and SSDs. Exceptionally high throughput performance is achieved by X-IO’s Continuous Adaptive Data Placement (CADP) software, which monitors I/O in real-time, ensuring that high demand data hotspots reside on the faster SSD. ISE’s are uniquely designed to scale so that no matter how many ISE units are added to increase capacity, full storage performance is maintained. X-IO’s ISE units contribute significantly to its customers’ environmental credentials thanks to their low energy consumption and low HVAC loads.
